ESSENTIAL GLOSSARY / THE DEFINITION

Consumer Given Value

Customers can add something the business did not create by itself.

FROM THE ORIGINAL BOOK GLOSSARY

Consumer Given Value is the value consumers assign, create, amplify, validate, transmit, defend, or sustain around products or services through their presence, behavior, relationships, memory, language, recommendations, return behavior, or influence, even when the business has not directly produced that value.

It is not equivalent to satisfaction, interaction, or community and cannot be reduced to a single signal.

THINK ABOUT IT

What are people bringing to the experience?

A regular who introduces a friend, a guest who brings people together or a member who helps others can make the experience better. That contribution is not simply a sale.
