ESSENTIAL GLOSSARY / THE DEFINITION

Harmony

Not balance. The way two engines work together.

FROM THE ORIGINAL BOOK GLOSSARY

Harmony is the condition in which, within a defined time horizon, the relationships between the Economic Engine and the Social Engine remain within the conditions established for the products or services the business intends to create and for the continued creation, capture, and regeneration of value.

It does not mean balance, a fixed proportion, the absence of trade-offs, or the simultaneous maximization of both engines.

THINK ABOUT IT

Are both engines still supporting the business we want to run?

Harmony is not about making two numbers equal. It is about whether the economic and social parts of a business can keep doing the work its product and strategy require.
